Responsibilities

  • Operate CNC, manual lathes, turning centers, machining centers, milling machines, and other machine shop equipment.
  • Effectively read and work from blueprints, sketches, or instructions utilizing available resources efficiently.
  • Ensure safe use of all equipment and work areas. Safety shoes and eyeglasses are required.
  • Proper use and care of measuring equipment and the ability to measure machined components using a variety of tools.
  • Maintain accurate paperwork such as cost cards, route sheets, and shop reports on a timely basis.
  • Clean and deburr machined components.
  • Assist in programming and problem solving on CNC equipment.
  • Help train CNC machinists/operators in machine operation and programming.
  • Recommend and/or specify tooling, setups, and job assignments for CNC and other equipment.
  • Assist in the design and building of jigs and fixtures as required.
  • Notify Shop Foreman when expendable tooling needs to be replaced and ensure proper use of tool crib and storage areas.
  • Maintain current knowledge in the setup and operation of new equipment and software.
  • Work with management and operators to improve product quality and equipment efficiency.
  • Perform and ensure completion of periodic maintenance on CNC equipment.
  • Assist in the maintenance and care of machines, tools, and fixtures. Proper storage and lubrication of machinery.
  • Assist in maintaining program files.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts through structured problem-solving and LEAN concepts.
  • Maintain a clean work area and ensure safe use of all equipment.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications

Required

  • 5–10 years of CNC machining experience.
  • Proficiency in CNC programming and operation.
  • High school education or equivalent.
  • High school machine shop, apprentice program, or related machining experience including setup and operation of engine lathes, vertical mills, and surface grinders.
  • Knowledge of trigonometry and basic shop principles.
  • Ability to lift 35 lbs. from floor to bench.
  • Good understanding of dimensioning, tolerancing, and use of machine shop measuring tools.
