The Merchandise Specialist at Bay Colony Tennis Club is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Tennis Pro Shop, managing inventory, and providing exceptional customer service to all members and guests. Responsibilities

  • Select, order, and manage tennis-related inventory, including apparel, equipment, and accessories.
  • Develop merchandising strategies to enhance product visibility and sales.
  • Recommend and purchase tennis shop merchandise based on member knowledge, feedback, and trends.
  • Promote and sell merchandise & manage inventory & sales.
  • Assist Members with equipment and apparel selection.
  • Responsible for inventory controls, including timely receipt of goods, return of defective/damaged merchandise, and return of inventory shipment errors.
  • Present merchandise in attractive displays and rotate to maintain a fresh look.
  • Maintain optimal stock levels and ensure timely restocking of items.
  • Follow up on all special orders and notify customers of the receipt of their orders.
  • Ensure accounting functions including invoicing, expense tracking, and reporting are completed accurately and timely.
  • Attend necessary merchandise shows to order merchandise and keep up with current trends.
  • Schedule and support trunk shows.
  • Create a warm, friendly, and welcoming environment to members.
  • Handle customer inquiries, returns, and exchanges professionally and efficiently.
  • Responsible for efficient and friendly customer service throughout the pro shop.
  • Responsible for answering Tennis Pro Shop calls and emails and greeting members.
  • Assists members with ball machine set up as needed.
  • Ensure the pro shop is clean, organized, and visually appealing at all times.
  • Execute point of sale transactions.
  • Process all returned merchandise and issue proper credit to customer.

Qualifications

Required

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Strong background in retail, preferably in a tennis pro shop related setting or similar
  • Experience in inventory management
  • Member-focused with a genuine desire to interact actively with the membership
  • 2+ years of retail merchandising/buying experience
  • Strong negotiation skills with vendors
  • Knowledge of retail math acumen, including markup, markdown, gross margin, OTB, inventory productivity measures
  • Strong visual and merchandising skills
  • Computer proficient with a solid understanding of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of Point-of-Sale Systems with experience using Northstar Club Management Software preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to maintain composure in a high-paced and at times stressful environment

Bay Colony Tennis Club located within Bay Colony is looking for an experienced, energetic and customer service oriented Merchandise Specialist.

The residents of Bay Colony enjoy membership privileges in the Bay Colony Beach Club and Tennis Club. The Beach Club which is located on two miles of pristine beach offers a wide array of fine dining experiences, from casual to elegant, plus outdoor amenities including private beach, swimming pool, sun deck and Chickee bar. The Tennis Club features six courts and a Pro Shop. Bay Colony prides itself on providing our owners with impeccable service and world class quality.

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Tennis Pro Shop. managing inventory and providing exceptional customer service to all members and guests.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Merchandise Specialist:
  • Select, order, and manage tennis-related inventory, including apparel, equipment, and accessories.
  • Develop merchandising strategies to enhance product visibility and sales.
  • Recommend and purchase tennis shop merchandise based on member knowledge, feedback and trends.
  • Promote and sell merchandise & manage inventory & sales.
  • Assist Members with equipment and apparel selection.
  • Responsible for inventory controls, including timely receipt of goods to ensure appropriate discounts are received, timely return of defective / damaged merchandise, & timely return of inventory shipment errors.
  • Present merchandise in attractive displays and rotate keeping a fresh look to tennis shop.
  • Maintain optimal stock levels and ensure timely restocking of items.
  • Follow up on all special orders making sure customers are aware of the receipt of their orders in accordance with established procedures.
  • Ensure accounting functions including invoicing, expense tracking, and reporting are completed accurately and timely.
  • Attend necessary merchandise shows to order merchandise and to keep up with current trends.
  • Schedule and support trunk shows.

Customer Service:
  • Create a warm, friendly, and welcoming environment to members.
  • Handle customer inquiries, returns, and exchanges professionally and efficiently.
  • Responsible for efficient and friendly customer service throughout the pro shop, accurately ringing up charges at the register and properly checking in tennis players prior to play.
  • Responsible for answering Tennis Pro Shop calls and emails and greeting members.
  • Assists members with ball machine set up as needed.

Shop Operations:
  • Ensure the pro shop is clean, organized, and visually appealing at all times.
  • Execute point of sale transactions.
  • Process all returned merchandise and issue proper credit to customer.
  • Knowledgeable in club programs and assist in promoting events and programs.
  • Proficient working with retail software and generating reports.

Other:
  • All other duties as assigned.

Requirements

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and REQUIREMENTS:
  • Minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent
  • Bachelor's degree in Merchandising or related field preferred.
  • Must have a strong background in retail, preferably in a tennis pro shop related setting or similar.
  • Must have experience in inventory management
