Qualifications

  • At least 1 year of transportation engineering experience (at least 2 years for Engineer II)
  • A broad knowledge base in aspects of street design and understanding of civil engineering drawings
  • Strong proficiency in Computer Aided Design software (MicroStation)
  • Specific knowledge of roadway geometric design or streetscape design
  • Interest in multimodal transportation issues and design
  • Excellent task and time management skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience with the Microsoft Office suite of applications

Preferred

  • Knowledge of civil engineering design software: Inroads, OpenRoads
  • Experience and/or interest in conducting public outreach and engagement

A Day in the Life of an Engineer I/II

You are at the forefront of brainstorming creative solutions for challenging projects alongside an interdisciplinary team. You'll use state of the art tools and practices to help create sustainable, people-centered, multimodal transportation infrastructure. You will be improving people's lives and commutes through the design of streets, active transportation facilities, and Vision Zero safety projects from concept plans and design development to detailed final design plans for construction projects.

Work Schedule for an Engineer I/II:

This full-time position typically works a flexible schedule of 40 hours a week. We also provide employees with the flexibility and necessary equipment to work from home 2-3 days per week. The Silver Spring office of Toole Design is our corporate headquarters. We are conveniently located just outside of Washington DC in downtown Silver Spring, close to regional trails and networks on on-street bike infrastructure two blocks from the Silver Spring Metrorail/MARC Station and bus depot. Our beautiful 8th floor suite offers stunning views of DC and surrounding Montgomery County. The office is easily accessed on foot, by bicycle, and via transit.
