The Medical Assistant at MLK Community Healthcare's Wilmington Clinic in Endocrinology is responsible for assisting physicians with patient-related procedures, maintaining patient flow, and acting as a liaison between physicians, patients, and medical office staff.   • Assists providers in performing office procedures and duties related to patient care as requested adhering to documentation standards based on Office Protocols.
  • Consistently assesses the patient flow by identifying those areas or problems that are causing interruptions and resolves them or brings to the attention of Practice Manager
  • Performs basic Medical Assistant functions based on assigned office such as Injections, Immunization, Pulmonary function testing, Snellen, Hearing exams and Electrocardiograms.
  • Acquires thorough patient histories and documents preventative care, assists with medication reconciliation and transcribes family history and any forms based on office protocol.
  • Reviews each patient orders for completeness and cancels any order not done prior to patient check out. Consistently rectifies inaccuracies and calls them to the Practice Manager attention.
  • Reviews each referral and laboratory requisition for correct patient, accurate tests and diagnosis and the correct laboratory.
  • Obtains waivers and consents and documents thoroughly what procedures were performed and instruction given to patient using electronic medical record or following guidelines in Office Protocol.
  • Appropriately prepares examination rooms immediately after patient's visits. Maintains rooms stocked with supplies and are disinfected on daily based on Office Protocol.
  • Assures the patient is checked out and has been provided the Patient Summary Plan. Reviews the Patient Summary Plan to assure the patient clearly understands all instructions based on direction from providers.
  • Exhibits tact, courtesy, respect, cooperation and support in every aspect of their job when with patients, staff and providers always adhering to HIPAA.
  • Perform duties with speed and accuracy while observing the guidelines set forth by OSHA, HIPAA, DHS, CLIA, EPA and specific contracts.
  • Other duties assigned that are reasonably associated with the essential functions of the job as requested by Practice Manager.

Qualifications

Required

  • Medical Assistant Diploma/Certificate from accredited school
  • High School graduate or GED
  • BLS certified and knowledge of emergency procedures
  • Minimum of one year experience in a medical practice environment

Preferred

  • CMA Certification

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

A. Education
  • Medical Assistant Diploma/Certificate from accredited school
  • CMA Certification Preferred
  • Maintaining certification by completing CME's and keeping certifications up to date.
  • High School graduate or GED.
  • BLS certified and knowledge of emergency procedures

B. Qualifications/Experience
  • Minimum of one year experience in a medical practice environment.

C. Special Skills/Knowledge
  • Knowledge of medical technology, procedural terminology and diagnostic codes.
  • Ability to maintain a professional and patient care oriented attitude.
