Responsibilities
- Works outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Reads and understands blueprints, drawings, and sketches.
- Selects proper size and type of building materials according to the project specifications and dimensions.
- Plans the installation to avoid obstructions and to avoid interfering with activities of the other workers.
- Prepares the layout using rule, framing square, plumb bob, and chalk line.
- Marks cutting and assembly lines on materials, using pencil, chalk, and marking gauge.
- Shapes materials to prescribed measurements, using saws, chisels, plasma cutters, oxy/acetylene torches, and planes.
- Assembles, cut and shapes materials by fastening them together with nails, dowel pins, welders or adhesives.
- Verifies the trueness of a structure using a plumb bob and carpenters level.
- Erects framework for structures.
- Skilled in signaling a crane with an applied knowledge of rigging.
- Constructs forms and chutes for pouring concrete.
- Erects scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground level.
- Loads transports, unloads materials, tools, equipment, and supplies.
- Assists in lifting, positioning, and securing of materials and work pieces during installation.
- Cleans and performs minor maintenance activities on tools, rigging, and equipment.
- Maintains a clean and safe work environment.
- Restocks supplies and materials as necessary.
- Must be able to safely traverse uneven terrain with tools and building materials.
