This position is assigned to the Parnall office located in Jackson, MI. The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify).

**We are looking for:** **Mechanical Engineer (Performance)**

The Mechanical Engineer assist in the development, design and testing of new products or systems. The incumbent works on a team with other engineers, scientist, and technicians on moderately complex projects to ensure that their projects meet all relevant safety standards and specifications. The Mechanical Engineer tests mechanical and electromechanical products and systems and is responsible for the mechanical testing and maintenance of products in production, as well as testing prototypes.

**In this role, you will** **:**

+ Able to support and/or lead legal investigations

+ Perform thermodynamic calculations for the steam turbine cycle (Rankine Cycle), combustion turbines (Brayton Cycle), and unit heat rate.

+ Perform thermodynamic modeling within the EBSILON software studying "what if" scenarios to evaluate the impact of plant projects and abnormal equipment lineups on power output and heat rate.

+ Utilize energy economics to justify power plant projects. Tasks will specifically include calculating the heat rate and power output impact of individual projects and then use to calculate fuel cost savings.

+ Develop test procedures and perform performance testing of major power plant equipment such as: gas turbines, steam turbines, fans, pumps, heat exchangers, condensers, cooling towers, evaporative coolers, boilers, and Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems. Develop technical reports to communicate results.

+ Perform heat rate studies and quantify sources of heat rate penalties. Will be quantified in terms of net unit heat rate, gross unit heat rate, or turbine cycle heat rate where fuel heat input is in terms of higher heating value or lower heating value.

+ Develop heat rate curves for unit dispatch.

+ Maintain and upgrade the On-Line Heat Rate power plant performance monitoring system.

+ Design, control, and implement mechanical systems and products

+ Designing, maintaining, implementing, or improving mechanical instruments, facilities, components, equipment products, or systems for industrial, commercial, or domestic purposes

+ Performing a wide range of engineering tasks by operating computer-assisted design or engineering software and equipment

+ Collaborate with customers, coworkers, and others to discuss existing or potential engineering products or projects

+ Ensuring that installation and operations conform to standards and customer requirements by preparing mechanical systems specifications, technical drawings, or topographical maps

+ Establishing construction, manufacturing, or installation standards or specifications by performing a wide range of detailed calculations

+ Ensuring compliance with specifications, codes, or customer requirements by directing or coordinating installation, manufacturing, construction, maintenance, documentation, support, or testing activities

+ Writing reports and compiling data regarding existing and potential mechanical engineering projects and studies

+ Preparing specifications for purchases of mechanical equipment and materials and estimating material, labor, or construction costs for budget preparation

+ Other non-essential duties as assigned or may be necessary
