The Controls Engineering Intern at Hussmann Corporation will gain experience and insight into the day-to-day life of an engineering professional, working across the engineering team to provide new product development support. Responsibilities

  • Assist with validating software operation in electronic equipment controls incorporating both application level and circuitry level analysis.
  • Learn our customers' needs and follow the processes required for developing and releasing the product at a high-quality level and at a given deadline.
  • Learn and follow the processes in application development, validation, and troubleshooting of control systems.
  • Participate in preparing technical information and training materials to other functional groups, customers, and leadership.
  • Utilize contemporary Engineering processes and tools such as Computer Aided Design (CAD), Reliability Analysis, etc.
  • Participate in developing detailed specifications, detailed program plans and work breakdown structure, milestones, major review, schedule, cost, etc.
  • Follow project plans and communicating their status to the team.
  • Network with senior leaders, associates, and other program interns to learn about our organization.
  • Attend tours of Hussmann's 1.6 million square foot manufacturing facility, our Global Hub, and the R&D Lab.
  • Participate in community stewardship outreach, offsite, and career development events.
  • Compete in our annual Ideation & Innovation Challenge.

Qualifications

Required

  • Currently enrolled in school pursuing a minimum of a bachelor's degree
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to effectively interact with all levels of the organization
  • Ability to set priorities, manage multiple projects, and demonstrate strong attention to detail
  • Highly motivated and eager to learn
  • Strong computer skills

Preferred

  • Knowledge in communications protocols like CAN, BACnet, Modbus, TCP/IP using wired or wireless
  • Knowledge with electronic analysis methodologies, in using development/validation toolsets and associated instrumentation
  • Knowledge in programmable platforms, PLC, and embedded controls using programming languages like C/C++, structured texts, function blocks, etc.
  • Previous internship experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Refrigeration/HVAC knowledge
  • General understanding of refrigeration systems, thermo-dynamics, heat transfer and structural analysis principles
  • Basic electrical wiring knowledge

As a Controls Engineering Intern in the 2025 Hussmann Summer Internship Program, you will gain experience and insight into the day in the life of an engineering professional. You will work across the engineering team to provide new product development support.

**Ideation & Innovation Challenge:** Throughout the twelve-week program, Hussmann interns will compete with a team of fellow interns in the Hussmann Ideation & Innovation Challenge. After being divided into cross-functional groups, interns will work to find a solution to the provided problem statement. They will then present the solution to a panel of judges, executive leaders, and the organization to compete in the IIC competition.

**Qualifications**

The summer internship will run from approximately the third week of May through the second week of August. These dates may be changed to meet the needs of the student.
