**Responsibilities**

**The Physician Assistant (PA) Hospitalist is responsible for utilizing training and skills to provide direct patient care,**

**under the supervision of a Physician.**

**ESSENTIAL KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES**

▪ Obtain medical histories when necessary.

▪ Perform physical exams (within established protocol).

▪ Diagnose, treat and monitor acute and chronic diseases (within protocol guidelines).

▪ Order and interpret diagnostic tests.

▪ Prescribe or recommend medications for prescription for medications and treatment (within protocol

guidelines).

▪ Promote positive lifestyle habits to all patients through education and counseling.

▪ Assure the supervising physician reviews and signs off charts within seven (7) days.

▪ Maintain patient's privacy and confidentiality.

▪ Work closely with nurses to assure patient flow is efficient.

▪ Consult with the supervising physician regarding patient symptoms to assure proper diagnosis and plan of

treatment.

▪ Provide comprehensive teaching to patients and families.

▪ Makes follow up calls to check patient's progress.

▪ Reviews diagnostic testing results such as labs and imaging reports (within clinic protocol timeframe)

▪ Assists doctors with phone coverage and hospital rounds.

▪ Oversees clinical data collection (ie for quality improvement or database reporting)

▪ Conducts relevant research.

▪ Participate in quality improvement.

▪ Attends meetings as requested.

▪ Responds to emergency situations in an appropriate manner.

▪ Performs other duties as assigned

**Qualifications**

Required Education and Experience:

+ Graduate of a Physician Assistant training program

Required Licensure and Certification(s):

+ State PA license required

+ BLS

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Training

+ 2 years experience as a full-time Physician Assistant, preferably in inpatient or outpatient setting

**Pay Range**

$48.26 - $57.67 /hour
