The Physician Assistant Hospitalist at CHI Memorial Hospital is responsible for providing direct patient care under the supervision of a Physician. This role involves obtaining medical histories, performing physical exams, diagnosing and treating acute and chronic diseases, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, and prescribing medications within protocol guidelines. Responsibilities

  • Obtain medical histories when necessary.
  • Perform physical exams within established protocol.
  • Diagnose, treat and monitor acute and chronic diseases within protocol guidelines.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests.
  • Prescribe or recommend medications for prescription for medications and treatment within protocol guidelines.
  • Promote positive lifestyle habits to all patients through education and counseling.
  • Assure the supervising physician reviews and signs off charts within seven days.
  • Maintain patient's privacy and confidentiality.
  • Work closely with nurses to assure patient flow is efficient.
  • Consult with the supervising physician regarding patient symptoms to assure proper diagnosis and plan of treatment.
  • Provide comprehensive teaching to patients and families.
  • Make follow up calls to check patient's progress.
  • Review diagnostic testing results such as labs and imaging reports within clinic protocol timeframe
  • Assist doctors with phone coverage and hospital rounds.
  • Oversees clinical data collection (ie for quality improvement or database reporting)
  • Conducts relevant research.
  • Participate in quality improvement.
  • Attends meetings as requested.
  • Responds to emergency situations in an appropriate manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required

  • Graduate of a Physician Assistant training program
  • State PA license
  • BLS certification
  • 2 years experience as a full-time Physician Assistant, preferably in inpatient or outpatient setting

**Qualifications**

Required Education and Experience:

+ Graduate of a Physician Assistant training program

Required Licensure and Certification(s):

+ State PA license required

+ BLS

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Training

+ 2 years experience as a full-time Physician Assistant, preferably in inpatient or outpatient setting

**Pay Range**

$48.26 - $57.67 /hour
