A Penske Refrigeration Technician is responsible for diagnosing, overhauling, adjusting, and repairing all series of motor truck and trailer equipment, with a primary focus on refrigeration unit maintenance equipment designed for commercial trucks and trailers. Responsibilities

  • Read complex schematics associated with the refrigeration and air conditioning equipment.
  • Identify warrantable repairs and document on repair order.
  • Maintain work area appearance and safety.
  • Road test vehicles when necessary to diagnose malfunctions or to ensure that they are working properly.
  • Perform duties with little or no supervision and in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Use hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, and precision instruments, as well as power tools such as pneumatic wrenches, lathes, welding equipment, and jacks and hoists.
  • Provide additional support regarding preventative maintenance and tractor trailer maintenance as required by location management.
  • Inspect and verify dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure conformance to factory specifications.
  • Other projects and tasks as assigned by supervisor

Qualifications

Required

  • 6 years practical experience with tractor trailer maintenance
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Specialized training and experience in the overhaul of refrigeration components
  • Proficiency in the use of all necessary tools of trade
  • Current CDL license with air brake certification preferred
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Ability to work in a non-climate controlled environment
  • Understanding and compliance with specific instructions, guidelines, rules, regulations, or other information established by Penske management
  • Adherence to DOT, OSHA, and all Penske safety and maintenance policies
  • Regular, predictable, full attendance
  • Completion of DOT Drug Screening within 30 days of start
  • FMCSA Clearinghouse review for CDL holders
  • Willingness to travel as necessary
  • Completion of background investigation (to include past employment, education, and criminal history)

**Position Summary:**

- The associate will be required to understand and comply with specific instructions, guidelines, rules, regulations, or other information established by Penske management

- The associate must be able to perform all work adhering to DOT, OSHA, and all Penske safety and maintenance policies; including but not limited to the correct selection and use of appropriate tools, PPE, machine guarding, and established best safety practice.

- Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job

- As this position requires driving Penske and customer vehicles, it is regulated by the DOT and requires a current driver qualification file to be maintained as required by the role. The driver qualification file includes: an annual motor vehicle records (MVR) check, a successfully completed DOT Physical, and Safety Performance History records request from prior employers in the last 3 years. Additionally, CDL holders will have a DOT Drug Screening within 30 days of start and subject to a FMCSA Clearinghouse review.

- Willingness to travel as necessary, work the required schedule, work at the specific location required, complete Penske employment application, submit to a background investigation (to include past employment, education, and criminal history) and drug screening are required.

This position is regulated by the Department of Transportation or designated as safety sensitive by the company, and the ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is required.
