As a Process Technician at Sonoco Products Company, you will be responsible for continuously improving processes, products, and systems in a safe and efficient manner to meet and exceed safety, quality, and productivity goals. Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safety and health of employees take precedence over all duties of this job
  • Monitor cycle times and adjust as needed
  • Maintain accuracy of processes during production
  • Modify processes as required for product orders
  • Correct errors and work with operators to improve process clarification and effectiveness
  • Conduct mechanical tasks such as process monitoring, sampling and testing, preparing and isolating equipment for maintenance
  • Provide technical support to shift for troubleshooting and problem resolution
  • Ensure equipment and processes meet and sustain standard production outputs
  • Monitor operations process, work, and material flow to ensure quality and customer specs are met
  • Assist maintenance with preventative maintenance projects
  • Back-up on running presses during breaks and back up to shift supervisor
  • Conduct test and trial runs as needed
  • Assist in mold changes and repairs to optimize the molding process
  • Maintain cleanliness of work area
  • Train Production Supervisors and other Process Technicians
  • Provide repair and replacement of electrical and/or pneumatic instrumentation and control systems
  • Maintain and improve upon existing manufacturing practices
  • Create data base and manipulate charts
  • Develop projects to improve PPK's throughout the plant
  • Perform all duties in a manner that demonstrates the highest level of quality and safety

Qualifications

Required

  • Sufficient Mechanical Skill to troubleshoot/fix machine issues
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Reliable, have good initiative, committed, and quality focused
  • BS in engineering, industrial technology, or plastics technology

Preferred

  • 3D design software (AutoCAD, SOLIDWORKS, INVENTOR)
  • Excel MACROS
  • Project management certificate

Position: Process Technician I, II, III

Location: Franklin Park, IL

Wage: $30.30 - $40.11/HR

Shift: M- F 6am - 2pm

Reporting directly to the Plant Engineer, as a Process Technician you will be responsible for work as a hands-on process technician to continuously improve our process, products and systems in a safe and efficient manner to meet and exceed our goals for safety, quality, and productivity. Direct and coordinate the process control of both thermoforming and extrusion equipment to ensure the manufacturing processes is in control, operating at maximum efficiencies, and that the extruded roll stock and thermoformed product meets or exceeds the customer requirements for quality and service. Excellent attendance is crucial for the team to achieve success.

What you'll be doing:

  • The safety and health of employees take precedence over all duties of this job
  • Monitors cycle times and adjusts as needed. Maintain accuracy of processes during production.
  • Proficiency on Microsoft Office (Excel, Power point, Word)
  • Modify processes as required for product orders
  • Correct errors and work with operators to constantly improve process clarification and effectiveness.

  • Provide technical support to shift for trouble shooting and problem resolution

  • Creating and understanding Pareto charts
  • Understanding and developing projects to improve PPK's throughout the plant
  • Proficient on quality equipment calibration
  • Knowledgeable on Thermoforming process (how to set up equipment, knowledge on mechanical components, electrical components, pneumatics)
  • Be able to create, develop and maintain recipes on Thermoforming
  • Knowledgeable on Extrusion process (how to set up equipment, knowledge on mechanical components, electrical components, pneumatics)
  • Be able to create, develop and maintain recipes on Extrusion
  • Capable to detect deficiencies and implement process-countermeasures to solve problems
  • Proficient on Infinity data base, Agile, Vorne, OEE studio
  • Lead an SPS team
  • Be able to develop blue belt project
  • Proficient with 3d design software (AutoCAD, SOLIDWORKS, INVENTOR)
  • Capable to handle projects (upgrading equipment, managing contractors)
  • Create and run CAA capital projects
  • Propose and implement continuous improvement projects on the production floor
  • Communicate with internal and external customers in a professional manner
  • Responsible for implementing visual controls and standard work in department
  • Work with the plant and management to improve safety initiatives
