Qualifications

Teacher Assistant / Grade 59 ($16.48 - $22.23 per hour); plus local supplement, if applicable

The salary for this position is based upon the successful applicant's years of service in the NC State Retirement System in the same or similar position. Experience outside of this system is not recognized for pay purposes. For current Lincoln County School employees, this position will be paid according to the current Lincoln County Schools' pay scale.

Nature of Work

Under general supervision, a teacher assistant will perform a variety of technical and clerical tasks in assisting a teacher. Employee may perform a wide range of tasks in order to support the efforts of the teacher, meet the needs of all students, and ensure the provision of quality instruction for all students. Employee provides one-on-one assistance with academics, behavioral problems, and personal and self-helps skills and may lead small group activities. Employee assists teacher with general housekeeping, clerical duties, and personal care needs of students.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must be able to pass a drug test, background check, and TB test before starting employment.
  • Meet the following requirements of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA):
    • hold an Associate's degree or higher (in any area);
    • or 30 semester hours; (in any area)
    • or a passing score as noted below on the WorkKeys Test offered at Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC)
      • Workplace Documents - The state requires a passing level of 4 or above
      • Applied Math - The state requires a passing level of 4 or above
      • Business Writing - The state requires a passing level of 3 or above

  • Working knowledge of effective methods of working with students
  • Working knowledge of the core subjects at the grade level to which employment assignment is made
  • Some knowledge of the school organization and its community
  • Some knowledge of expected behavior of students and basic characteristics of ages and stages
  • Skill necessary to operate audiovisual and technological equipment and common office machines
  • Skill to make learning aids which will strengthen lesson plans
  • Ability to comprehend the purpose of teacher-designed strategies as a fulfillment of the instructional objective
