The Job Training & Safety Specialist administers CoServ's technical training and safety program, focusing on overhead and underground electrical distribution systems. Responsibilities

  • Develops and delivers approved industry standard technical training and assessments for the EDP including classroom and field training.
  • Educates, provides skills, and improves performance through workplace training.
  • Identifies training needs through review of incidents, near misses, EPD, employee job descriptions, new equipment, new procedures, on-the-job performance, and Federal, State, and Local regulatory agencies.
  • Assists designated Operations personnel with setting performance objectives and developing and implementing competency-based performance evaluations.
  • Assists designated Operations personnel with implementation and revision of the EPD, policies, and procedures.
  • Participates as the facilitator for the Safety Advisory Team.
  • Sets performance objectives, develops, and implements competency-based performance tests, quizzes, and evaluations.
  • Maintains training records and evaluates training for effectiveness.
  • Investigates, analyzes, and reviews injury and near miss reports and makes recommendations for prevention.
  • Assists to ensure CoServ complies with all current safety and health policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Identifies and evaluates working conditions and makes adjustments to safeguard employee safety & health.
  • Designs and maintains the training fields, training rooms, tools, and equipment.
  • Assists in the implementation of the NRECA Rural Electric Safety Achievement Program.
  • Responds to incident/accident locations or other emergencies during normal business and after hours.
  • Complies with established CoServ safety and operating rules, procedures and guidelines including reporting unsafe practices to a supervisor.
  • Attends training and conferences pertaining to JT&S as required.
  • Travels for conferences, training and meetings as required.
  • Maintains all training tools and equipment.
  • Familiar with CoServ's standard concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Attends CPR/First Aid Training and maintains certification up to date.
  • Attends CoServ University required training.

Qualifications

Required

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D equivalency.
  • A minimum of five (5) years' experience in the electrical utility industry.
  • Journeyman Lineman Certification.

Preferred

  • Completion of NRECA's Loss Control Internship Program to become a Certified Loss Control Professional.
  • National Safety Council's Advanced Safety Certificate.
  • A minimum of ten (10) years' experience in the electrical utility industry.
  • Background in facilitating training and educational programs in the electrical utility industry.
  • Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, including email and public speaking setting.

Position Summary

The Job Training & Safety Specialist administers CoServ's technical training and safety program. This position requires in-depth knowledge of overhead and underground electrical distribution systems and is responsible for safe work practices, procedures, technical training, and the safety of all employees. This position implements, monitors and maintains the technical training safety programs for all employees and the Employee Development Program (EPD) for Electric Linemen and System Operators.

Primary Position Responsibilities

  • Develops and delivers approved industry standard technical training and assessments for the EDP including classroom and field training.
  • Educates, provides skills, and improves performance through workplace training.

  • Responsible for the maintenance of safety/accident records.
  • Prepares agendas for and conducts safety meetings/training.
  • Stays abreast of current JT&S standards and practices.
  • Maintains the integrity of confidential information.
  • Attends training and conferences pertaining to JT&S as required.
  • Travels for conferences, training and meetings as required.
  • Maintains all training tools and equipment.

  • Ability to use basic office equipment (computer, phone, fax, copier, etc.).
  • Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, including email and public speaking setting.

Physical Requirements

  • Works outdoors in all types of weather conditions and environmental conditions such as fallen branches, rough terrain, heavy underbrush, etc.
  • Operate all forms of equipment such as: bucket and line trucks, knuckle booms, trenchers, track hoe, and forklifts.
  • Drive a company vehicle.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Works at heights up to 100 feet above ground.
  • Works in no or low light conditions - using handheld lantern or spotlights.
  • Works in potentially hazardous conditions caused by pets and wildlife in or near the work site.
  • Works in areas with possible exposure to poison oak, poison ivy, and insect stings.
  • Works in underground confined spaces.
  • Perform other similar duties as a lineman.

Other Requirements

  • Must reside within the CoServ operations residential boundary.
  • Must be able to acquire and maintain a valid Texas Class A commercial driver's license.

  • Must have a good driving record and be insurable with the company's insurance carrier.
