The Maintenance and Engineering Manager at Evonik Industries is responsible for directing and monitoring maintenance and engineering related activities within the Chester, Pennsylvania Plant. Responsibilities

  • Promote an efficient work environment with a focus on safety and ensure compliance with company and governmental rules and regulations.
  • Provide leadership and supervision to maintenance hourly employees and engineers, managing work assignments, priorities, and duties for maximum efficiency.
  • Manage capital and maintenance projects, coordinate and control outside maintenance contractors, and ensure projects are completed within budget and on time.
  • Control maintenance and repair costs, track and report budget vs plan regularly, and regulate department workloads and overtime.
  • Perform root cause analysis for equipment and system failures to improve product quality, throughput, or reliability.
  • Enforce plant design standards, procedures, and work standards, and recommend improvements in equipment repair and replacement.
  • Coordinate with production management to minimize unscheduled downtime and emergency repairs.
  • Oversee compliance related inspections and maintain the mechanical integrity program for all I&E related devices and equipment.
  • Support company programs for maintaining ISO 9001/50001, RC 14001, and GMP certifications.

Qualifications

Required

  • BS in Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering.
  • 10+ years of experience in a maintenance, process, or technical manufacturing industry.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a maintenance supervisory role.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Ability to relate to and work with hourly maintenance personnel.

The Technical Manager directs and monitors maintenance and engineering related activities within the Chester, Pennsylvania Plant. This position provides organization, planning, direction and control of maintenance, technical changes/improvements and technical & regulation compliance documentation for a production plant. The position provides the technical expertise to maintain and continuously improve the technical availability of the plant as well as work to reduce maintenance costs through statistical review and root cause analysis. Oversees all the technical areas of the site including, but not limited to the technical assets, repairs and upgrades and plant facilities, process areas and controls, production areas and utilities. Ensures compliance with all the Evonik and Government Agencies policies, regulations and procedures. Ensure proper management of engineering projects and capital improvements and optimize manufacturing processes and provide knowledge for effective operations.

Provides engineering expertise to maintain and improve EH&S, quality, GMP's, throughput and uptime, and cost, ultimately to help plant achieve success in all areas. Ensures that the proper maintenance strategies (RBM, Mechanical Integrity, HAZIDs, Precision Maintenance, PdM, PM, and other reliability methods); are created and implemented in the Chester facility. Works under the leadership and direction of the Site Head and performs implicit and explicit duties as assigned by Site Head.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for promoting an efficient work environment with a key focus on the employees own safety and the safety of others and ensure that company and governmental rules and regulations are applied and followed. Includes being the site contractor management officer (CMO) and maintaining the contractor safety program.

  • Provides leadership and supervision to maintenance hourly employees and engineers (12 direct reports plus contractors). This position has a high impact on plant performance. Plan and direct work assignments, job schedules, work priorities and duties of direct reports to ensure maximum efficiency and proficiency, while maintaining a harmonious labor-management relationship. Note hourly employees are union.

  • Manages capital and maintenance projects and coordinates and controls outside maintenance contractors. Ensure projects are completed within budget and on time and communicate project status and significant milestones. Accountable for project controlling and status updates within EPIC.

  • Manages and controls maintenance and repair costs. Tracks and reports budget vs plan regularly. Regulate department workloads and overtime.

  • Ensures the performance of root cause analysis for failures of equipment and system problems. Recommend changes to Operations about modifying daily operation as needed to improved product quality, throughput or reliability.

  • Ensures and enforces plant design standards, procedures and work standards. Recommends and implement improvements in equipment repair and replacement, operating guidelines and design enhancements that will result in an improved production and maintenance operability and efficiency.
  • Coordinate with production management the timely completion of work orders, setting priorities, and maintaining PM systems to minimize unscheduled downtime and emergency repairs. Ensures proper planning and execution of plant shutdown work to minimize inefficiency and downtime.

  • Responsible for overseeing compliance related inspections. Maintain the mechanical integrity program for all I&E related devices and equipment. Organize and maintain critical documentation library on plant equipment and processes for operation, maintenance, and legal requirements. Maintain records on critical safety devices, including PSV book with inspection, testing, & calculation methods. Maintain Management of Change document records.

  • Support company programs for maintaining ISO 9001/50001, RC 14001 and GMP.
