The Driver/Shipping Assistant at TSG - The Sheridan Group is responsible for preparing and transporting raw materials and finished goods between the fulfillment warehouse and the plant. This role involves operating company-owned trucks, loading and unloading products, ensuring load security, assisting in product preparation for shipping, and maintaining vehicle cleanliness and safety compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Operate company-owned and/or leased trucks to facilitate shipping and receiving operations.
  • Load truck with product at fulfillment warehouse to transport to main plant and vice versa.
  • Ensure every load being transported is secure.
  • Unload truck when needed at plant or at customers place of business.
  • Assist in preparing product to be shipped by banding, wrapping, and loading product into truck.
  • Ensure shipping documents and checklist are filled correctly, matching Customer requirements and sent to the FFC shipping department in a timely matter.
  • Operate forklift in proper manner and complete pre-shift forklift inspection sheet as required.
  • Make deliveries and pick-ups in company vehicles in a timely, safe and courteous manner.
  • Perform required before, during and after operation “user maintenance” and provide required reports. Request periodic maintenance on a timely basis, as required for warranty coverage and/or good operating practice.
  • Accurately record all maintenance performed in maintenance log.
  • Drive within the guidelines of the law.
  • Maintain vehicle cleanliness inside and out.
  • Comply with OSHA regulations and company safety policies. Monitor for safety hazards and report any safety-related concerns.

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid Class A/CDL license with a clean driving record.
  • 1 or more year(s) or experience as a truck driver.
  • Ability to understand vehicle maintenance and operation.
  • Ability to read and understand maps and written instructions – including those dealing with dimensions and quantity.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work overtime and other shifts as required.
  • Prompt and reliable attendance required.

Preferred

  • Knowledge of Minnesota Department of Transportation regulations.
  • Forklift certification.

Physical Requirements:

Work is performed in a factory environment with regular exposure to dust, dirt, noise, and physical hazards of machinery, plus some exposure to fumes, oils, lubricants, and chemicals.

  • Safety toe shoes are required.
  • Walking: Must be able to walk with ease, as some operations require constant walking.
  • Standing: Must be able to stand on a concrete floor for varying amounts of time.
  • Lifting: Must be able to move/life skids, forms, pallet tops, and boxes up to 60 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Stooping/Bending: Must be able to bend downward from the waist, and flex knees, often to get lifts of printed materials and forms from the bottom of pallets from floor height up to waist (or a bit higher).
  • Reaching: Must be able to reach outward frequently at full arm extension and downward /upward from 6” to 56” height.
  • Sitting: Operation of forklifts and trucks requires continuous sitting.
  • Climbing: Must be able to climb on and off forklift and truck.
  • Grasping: Must be able to grasp/hold controls for forklift and truck operation.
  • Ability to use hand pallet jacks and fork trucks.
