Full Job Description

Job Description:

Role: Director of Engineering

Are you passionate about new technologies to build innovative solutions? Catchlight is seeking a dynamic Director of Engineering to lead our team in developing products using machine learning, large language models (LLMs), modern web applications, APIs, microservices, and cloud-native architecture.

Created in Fidelity Labs, Catchlight helps financial advisors grow their business by focusing on two simple, yet crucial questions: which prospect should I call next and what might they be interested in. Catchlight can gather up to 2,000 data points on a prospect. These data points can lead to insights which highlight specific needs or interests of a prospect, making it simpler for the advisor to act, saving time and driving 2-3x improvement in conversion.

In this role, you will be a hands-on player/coach, responsible for the design, implementation, testing, and delivery of new Catchlight products and capabilities. You will collaborate closely with technical leads and product managers to transform ideas from concepts into production-ready solutions, bringing these innovations to market.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the engineering team in designing, developing, and deploying solutions applying modern web frameworks, machine learning solutions, data engineering technologies, microservices, and cloud-native architecture.
  • Act as a hands-on player/coach, guiding the team through the entire product development lifecycle, from concept to production.
  • Collaborate with technical leads and product managers to ensure alignment of technical solutions with business goals and customer needs.
  • Drive the adoption of best practices in software engineering, including code quality, testing, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD).
  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the team.
  • Mentor and develop engineering talent, ensuring the team is equipped with the skills and knowledge to excel in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends and incorporate them into the development process to maintain a competitive edge.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, or a related field is required. Alternatively, substantial experience demonstrating a strong grasp of system design, technology adoption, data structures, algorithms, and a broad range of technologies is also acceptable.
  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with a focus on building B2B and enterprise applications.
  • Proven experience in leading and managing full stack teams in a dynamic startup like environment.
  • Extensive knowledge of modern JavaScript frameworks (e.g., Next.js, Vue.js), Python, SQL, and RESTful APIs.
  • Proficiency in designing and implementing microservice architectures and code-first data pipelines.
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools.
  • Proven experience in building and deploying software solutions using AWS public cloud providers
  • Experience with Ruby on Rails is highly desirable.
  • Strong analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills.
