JOB TITLE: ATHLETIC TRAINER

POSITION PURPOSE/GOAL:

The Athletic Trainer provides for the safety, health, and well-being of the student-athletes of Masuk High School through the care and prevention of athletic injuries. Additionally, the Athletic Trainer develops an educational sports medicine program inclusive of injury prevention, injury evaluations, injury management, injury treatment, and rehabilitation for all student-athletes.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

The work year begins on the first day of the CIAC fall schedule (fall sports tryouts typically start on or about August 15th) through the final day of the CIAC spring schedule as dictated by the Athletic Director. This position is responsible for providing athletic trainer coverage for high school athletic programs in both practice and interscholastic competition settings (30-40 hours per week). Work during the summer may be necessary and would be compensated at an hourly rate (to be paid separately). This is an unaffiliated position.

REPORTS TO:

The Athletic Trainer reports to the Masuk High School Athletic Director and Principal. The Athletic Trainer will be evaluated by the Athletic Director in collaboration with the high school principal.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide preventative care to student-athletes and support coaches by caring for players' sports related injuries.
  • Work in conjunction with coaches to ensure safety in the design and implementation of fitness, nutrition, and conditioning programs customized to individual student-athletes needs.
  • Coordinate and schedule physical examinations and medical referrals for student-athletes to determine ability to practice and/or compete.
  • Supervise the clearance of injured athletes prior to and during the sport seasons.
  • Assess, treat, and manage concussions, including the oversight of the return-to-play protocols.
  • Communicate with coaches, administrators, school nurse(s), and parents/guardians on a consistent and continuing basis.
  • Work directly with the coaches and parents/guardians to discuss a student-athlete's injuries to ensure all parties are aligned on treatment, recovery, and return-to-play guidelines and requirements.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records and documentation of student-athlete injuries and rehabilitation.
  • Assist the Athletic Director in the development of the athletic training budget by managing inventory and ordering athletic training room equipment and supplies.
  • Monitor weather conditions (heat/lightning), and alert coaches when conditions become unsafe.
  • Knowledge and application of CIAC heat acclimatization guidelines.
  • Knowledge of and ability to follow and comply with HIPAA regulations.
  • Ability to comply with and follow district policies and protocols required.
  • Maintains a daily treatment log, in accordance with department requirements.
  • Communicate with the Athletic Director to ensure adequate inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • Coordinate athletic trainer coverage for team practices and athletic competitions when absent.
  • Other responsibilities as determined by the Athletic Director.
