The Operations Technician at WACKER in Charleston is responsible for assisting operational areas with mechanical jobs, equipment rebuilds, and the fabrication of intermediates. Responsibilities

  • Assembly/Disassembly of Converter internals, electrodes, graphite parts, attached piping and converter shells in Conversion. Maintain a stock of converter insulation. Complete repairs to existing insulation as well as fabricate new as needed. Prepare Converter internal waste material for disposal according to applicable procedures and regulations.
  • Perform base plate revision mechanical related tasks in Deposition and support repairs/electrode replacement as needed. Perform troubleshooting tasks as necessary.
  • Perform hydro cyclone and filter exchanges on a regular basis as well as mechanical tasks related to equipment revision and/or rebuilds in Distillation. Perform vertical condenser, main filter, and related mechanical tasks in CSR.
  • Maintain proper housekeeping and material organization in all work areas. Walkdown EIP lock outs when required for assigned task. Perform necessary First Line Breaks. Effectively use hand tools and power tools. Perform minor equipment calibration and megger testing. Effectively transition between daily job tasks.
  • Support Team Members in areas of safety and quality. Work with cross-functional teams to achieve targeted results as assigned by department leadership. Execute assigned process improvement activities within team with a focus on improving efficiency, reducing cost, and increasing customer satisfaction. Communicate effectively with team members via telephone, radio, verbal and in written.

Qualifications

Required

  • Minimum High School Diploma or GED.
  • Degree or certificate in a technical field.
  • 2+ years on-the-job experience with mechanical/technical focus.
  • Experience in the safe and proper use of hand tools.
  • Experience in an industrial work environment.
  • Pipefitting work experience.

The primary responsibility for the Operations Technician is to assist all operational areas with various mechanical jobs, complete equipment rebuild/revision and the fabrication of intermediates. By ensuring tasks are completed with a focus on safety, high quality workmanship, and timely equipment turnaround, this position will key in our cost savings initiative.
