The Proteomics Group at Sloan Kettering Institute is seeking a Senior Research Technician to support projects across different programs of MSKCC. Qualifications

Required

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in a Biological, Chemistry, or Science related field with 2-4 years of relevant full-time experience or a Master’s degree with less than 2 years full-time relevant experience
  • Experience in mass spectrometry-based proteomics
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment

Preferred

  • Experience with Bruker TimsTOF instruments

Job Description:

Exciting Opportunity at MSK: The Proteomics Group at Sloan Kettering Institute (SKI) is seeking to recruit a dynamic, innovative and motivated Senior Research Technician to support projects across the different programs of MSKCC. The successful candidate will be responsible for executing proteomic experiments as well as for maintaining and operating mass spectrometers and HPLC systems.

The Senior Research Technician will perform research activities in collaboration with internal/external personnel to complete science-based projects. Works on laboratory experiments/projects of moderate scope to resolve a variety of issues. Normally receives general instructions while making detailed observations, analyzing data, and interpreting results according to laboratory procedures. Responsible for mentoring junior lab members. The Senior Research Technician may assist in developing new methods and technologies for project advancement and participate in scientific journals.

Role Overview:

  • Perform custom proteomic, phosphoproteomic (and other post-translational modifications), interaction proteomic, and targeted proteomic experiments
  • Develop, optimize, and validate new LC/MS methods
  • Use, maintain, and troubleshoot high-resolution mass spectrometers (Thermo Q Exactive Plus, Lumos, Eclipse) and nano LC instruments. Similar experience with the Bruker TimsTOF instruments is preferred, but not required
  • Conceptualize, design, and conduct proteomic experiments (including experimental design and basic data collection)
  • Apply open source and vendor-developed software for data analysis (e.g., Max Quant, Proteome Discoverer, Spectronaut, etc.)
  • Ensure that all research/discovery work is conducted with highest quality and ethical guidelines and in accordance with relevant regulatory, QC, and compliance guidelines
  • Maintain laboratory records and adherence to safety policies
  • Be responsible for monitoring and updating customers’ requests in iLAB
  • Be responsible for monitoring the inventory for the laboratory.
  • Communicate with vendor technical support and sales representatives as necessary
  • Train and supervise research technicians

Key Qualifications & Core Skills:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in a Biological, Chemistry, or Science related field with 2-4 years of relevant full-time experience or a Master’s degree with less than 2 years full-time relevant experience
  • Experience in mass spectrometry-based proteomics, including proteome profiling, PTM, protein-protein interaction, chemoproteomics, etc.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work in a team environment
