Responsibilities

  • Directs customers on how to safely and effectively use tools and shop supplies and instructs them in planning sequence of work.
  • Assists with the sale of the shop services and records on regular customers up to date.
  • Documents all work performed on the repair order.
  • Communicates with vendors to obtain needed parts.
  • Reports machinery defects or malfunctions to supervisor.
  • Keeps abreast of manufacturer technical bulletins.
  • Cleans shop area as required and ensures customer cars are clean.
  • Accountable for keeping and updating all dealership-owned tools and manuals.
  • Complies all maintenance and repair requirements with federal, state, and local regulations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know, NAF, OEM etc.
  • Notifies service advisor immediately of anything that has happened to change the appearance or condition of the vehicle.
  • Reports all safety issues to the supervisor.

Qualifications

Required

  • Must have experience plus a minimum of 6 months of specialized experience in general automotive work.
  • Knowledge in the maintenance and repair of diesel and gasoline powered engines and automotive equipment.
  • Knowledge to remove, replace, clean, and install parts, components and accessories.
  • Basic understanding of on-board computer diagnostic systems and other test equipment.
  • Knowledge in using basic automotive tools; read and interpret parts manuals and manufacturer's repair manuals.
  • Able to lift objects weighing up to 80 pounds.
  • Frequently stands, bends, stoops, crawls, and works in tight spaces.

Preferred

  • ASE certifications preferred but not required.

Satisfactory completion of a Tier 1 investigation is required You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution. FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program.
