This position is responsible for the development of fabrication methods for a range of parts, including those with complicated or specialized operations. The role involves developing/drafting procedures for the machine shop and equipment, providing training and advice to shop personnel, and proposing technical improvements. The CNC Mastercam Programmer will also produce parts to specifications using machine shop equipment, develop programs and setup sheets, and ensure the proper operation and maintenance of machine shop equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Produce parts to specifications using machine shop equipment.
  • Develop programs, setup sheets, and fixturing to ensure precise and efficient operation of machine shop equipment.
  • Leverage foundation and other quick-change solutions for efficient setups
  • Select and order any necessary atypical tooling that is needed
  • Establish and monitor speed and feed rates during the machining process.
  • Layout, measure, and prepare stock for part manufacture.
  • Interpret engineering drawings and specification to ensure proper fabrication of product.
  • Fabricate, repair, and assemble plastic/metal parts with the operation of mechanical equipment.
  • Operate standard hand and power tools to assemble parts into subassemblies and products.
  • Confirm that machines are maintained in proper working order, when needed work with vendors to troubleshoot or upgrade the equipment
  • Operate standard inspection equipment to confirm that parts conform to supplied drawings or requirements.
  • Perform incoming inspection on parts and ensure parts produced meet specifications.
  • Provide feedback on parts and machining process improvements. May require design of fixtures and jigs.
  • Draft and edit shop operational and preventative maintenance procedures.
  • Train personnel in the operation of shop equipment and tools.
  • Maintain inventory and ordering of shop supplies and materials and coordinate work orders and the use of the shop.
  • Maintain shop machines and tools, perform preventative maintenance and simple repairs.
  • Understand and follow safety precautions and ensure compliance with company safety policies. Provide training to others on safety precautions and company policies.

Qualifications

Required

  • Mastercam experience is required
  • Minimum of 8 years machining experience required
  • Accredited trade school diploma may be substituted for two years of experience
  • Experience using basic hand tools and inspection equipment required
  • Proficient in operating the following machine shop equipment: CNC Mill, Lathe, Water jet, Drill Press, Band saw, Table saw, Media blasting, Pedestal grinder
  • Knowledge of operation of machinery that perform threading, deburring, lapping, polishing, etc.
  • Ability to interpret basic engineering drawings and requirements.
  • Strong knowledge of the operation and programming of measurement equipment such as calipers, micrometers, indicators, CNC vision systems, and CMM.
  • Familiar with ISO Standards and Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Strong understanding of material consistencies of typical plastics and metals.
  • Logical problem solving and demonstrated ability to organize and move project tasks forward in an orderly and structured fashion.
  • Knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.

This position will also propose possible technical improvements that could advance capability and/or capacity.
