Shop Mechanic

Job Summary:

The Shop Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing a variety of construction equipment, machinery, and vehicles. This role involves working in a shop environment, performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring that all equipment is functioning optimally to support construction projects.

Key Responsibilities:

• Equipment Maintenance & Repair:
  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair construction equipment, including but not limited to trucks, trailers, vehicles, and machinery.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance to ensure equipment longevity and efficiency.
  • Conduct inspections and identify potential issues to prevent equipment breakdowns.
• Troubleshooting:
  • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical problems in equipment and determine the best course of action for repairs.
  • Utilize diagnostic tools and equipment to assess and address equipment issues.
• Record Keeping:
  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair work, including parts used, time spent, and vehicle/equipment condition.
  • Update maintenance logs and submit reports as required by the Shop Manager/Supervisor.
• Safety Compliance:
  • Follow all safety protocols and ensure that equipment is safe to operate.
  • Identify and report any safety hazards related to equipment or work environment.
  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
• Collaboration:
  • Work closely with the operations and project teams to ensure equipment availability and readiness.
  • Provide technical support and advice to crews regarding proper operation and maintenance.
• Continuous Improvement:
  • Stay updated with industry trends, new technologies, and best practices in maintenance and repair.
  • Participate in training and development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.

Qualifications:

• Education & Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical/vocational training in mechanics or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in maintenance and repair, preferably in the construction industry.
• Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Experience with diagnostic tools and software.
• Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift heavy objects, stand for extended periods, and perform manual labor as needed.
  • Capable of working in various weather conditions and environments.
• Certifications:
  • ASE certification or equivalent is a plus.
  • Valid commercial driver’s license (preferred) with a clean driving record.

Work Environment:

• This position is primarily based in a shop environment, with occasional fieldwork required.
• The role may involve exposure to loud noises, hazardous materials, and machinery.
