The Medical Assistant at New Roads Behavioral Health assists the Nursing team, Psychiatrist, and/or Nurse Practitioner by ordering labs or medication, sitting in on client appointments, being the point person for physicians with clients, and working with pharmacies and insurance companies. Responsibilities

  • Provides primary care services to clients.

  • Administers psychotropic and other medication to clients.
  • Conducts training of direct care service personnel in administering medication.
  • Monitors nosocomial infection, records infection rates, keeps statistics of infection, and administers the employee health program relative to infections (i.e., TB, Hepatitis).
  • Documents progress notes, admissions notes, and special notes in the medical record in a timely and professional manner, in accordance with charting guidelines.
  • Communicates effectively with other staff, residents, and parents/guardians.
  • Adheres to other duties as assigned.

  • 1-3 years’ experience in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing.

Job Purpose

Administers medication to clients and trains designated direct care staff in the administration of medication. Hiring for Monday-Friday 10am-6pm!

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides primary care services to clients.
  • Evaluates clients’ illness and injuries as to whether the client requires the attention of an M.D. (emergency room, specialized services such as orthopedics, ENT, etc.).
  • Administers psychotropic and other medication to clients.
  • Conducts training of direct care service personnel in the administering of medication.
  • Factions as the Infection Control Coordinator my monitoring nosocomial infection, records infection rates, keep statistics of infection and administers the employee health program relative to infections (i.e. TB, Hepatitis).
  • Documents progress notes, admissions notes and special notes in the medical record in a timely and professional manner, in accordance with charting guidelines.
  • Communicates effectively with other staff, residents and parents/guardians.
  • Adhere to other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education:

Minimum of High School Diploma required. Equivalent of Medical Assisting degree or certification preferred.

Training and experience:

Preferably have 1-3 years’ experience in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing.

Knowledge Required:

Must have a working knowledge of general psychiatric and emergency (triage) nursing practice.
