The Laboratory Technician performs a variety of chemical, microscopic, and bacteriological tests and procedures following established policies and procedures of the laboratory and requirements of accrediting and regulating agencies. Responsibilities
- Perform a variety of chemical, microscopic, and bacteriological tests and procedures.
- Follow established policies and procedures of the laboratory.
- Adhere to the requirements of accrediting and regulating agencies.
- Provide laboratory services appropriate to the age of the patients served, including newborn, pediatric, adult, and geriatric.
- Perform phlebotomy.
- Use basic computer knowledge to perform mathematical calculations.
- Apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one or two-step instructions.
- Ensure quality of patient care through good interpersonal skills and sound judgment.
- Communicate effectively, both written and verbally, with good comprehension skills.
Qualifications
Required
- Degree in Medical Technology or a related biological science.
- ASCP certified as an MLT or MT/MLS.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. or more and follow proper body mechanics.
- Experience in phlebotomy.
- Basic computer knowledge.
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple instructions.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Good communication skills, written and verbal.
- Effective reading and comprehension skills.
Preferred
- Meditech experience.

Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide laboratory services appropriate to the age of the patients served including newborn, pediatric, adult, and geriatric. Experience in phlebotomy a must! Basic computer knowledge, ability to perform mathematical calculations, apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one or two-step instructions. Good interpersonal skills and ability to use sound judgment to insure quality of patient care. Good communication skills, written and verbal, effective reading and comprehension skills. Meditech experience a plus. Degree in Medical Technology or a related biological science and ASCP certified as an MLT or MT/MLS. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. or more and follow proper body mechanics as relates to the job. Shift will be primarily evenings (2pm 10:30pm), with rotating weekends and on-call hours.
