Responsibilities

  • Assigns codes for diagnosis and procedures according to the appropriate classification system for all patient classes.
  • Utilizes coding principles to assign appropriate ICD-10 CM diagnosis and ICD-10 CM/CPT4 procedures.
  • Ensures codes accurately reflect patients' comorbid and complications of their conditions.
  • Abstracts data from the records and audits records to verify coding and grouping accuracy.
  • Works with billing department to correct coding and billing claim errors.

Qualifications

Required

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Associates Degree required.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or coding certification (CCS or CPC) required.
  • Minimum of one (1) year coding experience with ICD-10 and CPT.

Preferred

  • Knowledge of Rural Health Clinic (RHC) and Critical Access Hospital (CAH) standards and state medical record requirements preferred.
