Carbon Zero Buildings is seeking a Project Engineer to assist in the management and creation of construction plansets for the installation of building electrification technologies, EV Chargers, and energy efficiency upgrades in large existing multifamily housing complexes in California. Responsibilities

  • Conduct site visits to existing occupied multifamily properties throughout California.
  • Collect data from boiler rooms, electrical rooms, and occupied apartments to support plan development.
  • Synthesize information to design MEP systems that meet project requirements while fitting into the constraints of existing buildings.
  • Direct third party engineers in initiating the development of construction plansets.
  • Review and direct the development of plansets, incorporating feedback from various stakeholders.
  • Perform QC processes on schematic and final plansets to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Monitor and resolve open items necessary to finalize the design/engineering process.
  • Tailor template scopes of work to specific projects and provide material takeoffs to support project managers' bidding and subcontracting efforts.
  • Drive the process of incentive program reservation and incorporate incentive program requirements into plans and scopes

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as project engineer, ideally in MEP systems in existing multifamily buildings.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems commonly found in multifamily buildings.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency with reading and reviewing MEP plansets.
  • Knowledge of building codes and regulations related to California MEP systems.
  • Authorized to work in the US without sponsorship.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

In this role, you will work as a project engineer for a design-build general contractor, managing a pipeline of MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) and structural plansets from our engineering partners, ensuring that designs meet project requirements, timelines, and quality standards.

  • Project Design Development: Synthesize the available information to design MEP systems that meets the original project requirements while also fitting into the constraints commonly found in existing buildings
  • Engineering Coordination: Direct third party engineers in initiating the development of construction plansets.
  • Planset Management: Review and direct the development of plansets, ensuring timely incorporation of feedback from 3rd parties, CZB Principals, and other stakeholders.
  • Quality Control: Perform QC processes on schematic and final plansets to ensure accuracy and completeness.

  • Contract Specifications: Tailor template scopes of work to specific projects and provide material takeoffs to support project managers' bidding and subcontracting efforts.
