Lighthouse is seeking a dedicated Janitorial Technician to ensure the cleanliness and safety of their buildings and grounds, including corporate offices, shelter, and transitional housing units. Responsibilities

  • Responsible for cleaning all areas of the assigned properties, including common areas, vacant apartments, conference rooms, restrooms, and outdoor grounds and parking lot.
  • Performs minor tasks such as replacing light bulbs or unclogging pipes.
  • Clean and sanitize restrooms and cafeteria/kitchen.
  • Clean all laundry rooms including laundry room appliances.
  • Dust furniture, walls, and equipment in the building, including community rooms/areas.
  • Maintains a neat and orderly custodial closet; ensures cleaning supplies are stocked.
  • Set up, arrange, and remove decorations, tables, chairs, ladders, and scaffolding to prepare facilities for events
  • Wash windows
  • Assists in examining premises for safety hazards; reports deficiencies to the maintenance department.
  • Inspection of the building at regular intervals and reporting to the facilities manager any needs or concerns.
  • Assist Maintenance/Facilities Team as needed and approved or assigned by the Property Manager and/or Director of Housing & Community Development.
  • Inform facilities manager when necessary equipment is required to replace or purchase to perform necessary duties.
  • Clean and supply designated building areas (dusting, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, cleaning ceiling vents, restroom cleaning etc.)

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must pass a background check
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain strong professional and personal boundaries
  • Demonstrated ability to uphold and enforce organization policies and procedures as necessary
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong conflict resolution skills
  • An appetite for innovation and creative problem-solving

Preferred

  • Lived or some professional experience working with people experiencing homelessness or extreme levels of poverty in the US
  • Knowledge of safety hazards and proper use of various cleaning and sanitizing solutions
  • Ability to perform basic repairs and operate tools or equipment used in routine maintenance
  • Proven ability to work effectively with racially and ethnically diverse clients and teams
  • Exhibits willingness to have difficult conversations

With over 80 years of combined experience, Lighthouse serves as a beacon of hope to our neighbors who need it most by offering assistance with emergency basic needs alongside housing programs and supportive services designed to support long-term economic stability. Lighthouse owns and operates Spero Housing Group, a subsidiary non-profit dedicated specifically to developing and operating high quality affordable and supportive housing for persons of low and moderate income, as well as HandUp, a community and crowdfunding platform serving 100+ homeless service agencies and their clients across the United States.

Position Summary

Lighthouse is looking for a dedicated Janitorial Technician who will play a key role in ensuring our buildings and grounds remain clean, safe, and welcoming for all who enter. This position is vital to maintaining the cleanliness and appearance of our corporate office, shelter and transitional housing units. This individual will be responsible for keeping common areas clean, preparing recently vacated units for new residents, and ensuring that restrooms and outdoor spaces are always tidy and inviting. In addition to cleaning duties, you'll perform very minor repairs (lightbulb replacement, unclogging sinks/toilets), and help set up for events.

Your attention to detail will be crucial as you regularly inspect our facilities, ensuring they meet the highest standards of cleanliness. As part of the Maintenance/Facilities team, your work will support our mission to create a safe and welcoming space for guests,residents, and staff.
