The Maintenance Technician at Chapel Haven Schleifer Center performs a variety of routine semi-skilled maintenance tasks for the organization's facilities, including carpentry, painting, plumbing, and electrical trades work. Responsibilities

  • Completes minor/basic repairs as needed including plumbing, painting, electrical, and carpentry.
  • Oversees general grounds-keeping as directed by Facilities Manager including lawn and garden maintenance, and snow removal when necessary.
  • Immediately recognizes potential hazards or warning signs of problems and ensures that all jobs are completed in an exemplary and timely manner.
  • Assist with maintaining agency vehicles, including cleaning/maintenance, oil changes, repairs, emissions, registration, safety inspections, collecting mileage logs, etc.
  • Assembles, repairs, maintains, and moves furniture, such as desks, cabinets, tables, chairs, shelves, and related fittings and fixtures.
  • Assists with Chapel Haven special events (i.e., open houses, graduations, etc.), as needed.
  • Conducts routine inspections and maintenance of heating, electrical, and air conditioning equipment; replaces filters; identifies and reports more complex maintenance needs to Facilities Manager.
  • Inspects facilities and grounds for safety and security; identifies and reports hazardous conditions and facility maintenance needs to supervisor.
  • Ensures all Chapel Haven facilities comply with OSHA, CARF, DDS, Health Department, Building Department, and Fire Marshall Safety standards.
  • Performs custodial tasks and monitor's inventory.

Qualifications

Required

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 3 years' work experience including mechanical, plumbing, electrical.
  • Ability to multi-task and complete assigned duties within a specified period.
  • Effective judgment and decision-making skills; possess a keen sense of initiative.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team with other staff.
  • Independently organize work, set priorities, meet deadlines, and follow up on assignments.
  • Experienced in operating a variety of equipment, including snow blowers, lawnmowers, small hand tools and power tools.
  • Compassion/patience for individuals with disabilities.
  • Strong people skills
  • Ability to prioritize and organize daily maintenance list.
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Valid CT Driver’s License
  • Use of own vehicle as needed.

The Role:

Maintenance Technician ensures that facilities are available for use and consistently maintained in a safe and clean condition. Maintenance Technician operates a variety of tools and equipment, and performs related work as required.
