A well respected national law firm with an office in downtown San Diego is seeking a full-time Legal Assistant to support a high-level Trusts & Estates partner and paralegal. This is an onsite role offering a unique opportunity to gain exposure to complex, non-template legal work for a sophisticated, high-net-worth client base.
This role is perfect for a junior candidate looking to be trained by a stellar paralegal, or an experienced trust & estates legal secretary (in which case the target annual salary will be assessed per experience, and not necessarily capped at the listed range).
The ideal candidate will be detail-obsessed, highly professional, and confident managing heavy calendaring, task tracking, and communications across a small but fast-moving team.
Key Responsibilities of Legal Assistant
Manage all aspects of a partner’s complex calendar including internal and client scheduling
Answer phones, triage calls, and act as a front-facing contact for clients and prospective clients
Track and process expenses and daily time entry (via 3E)
Type, proofread, and format legal correspondence, motions, pleadings, and first-draft letters
Manage internal communications between attorney, paralegal, and office team
Handle eFiling of court documents
Draft and organize documents following detailed naming and formatting conventions
Maintain confidentiality and discretion in all client matters
Support administrative needs such as mail distribution and document preparation
Must either be or be willing to become a Notary Public (cost covered by firm)
Qualifications of Legal Assistant
4+ years recent experience in a legal secretary or high-level legal administrative role preferred, but will consider less, if candidate has exceptional legal assistant / executive assistant experience and wants to break into an area of law.
Exceptional attention to detail—especially grammar, spelling, formatting, and document naming
Ability to work independently, follow detailed email instructions, and proactively communicate
Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and experience with 3E time entry software
Experience with eFiling is required
Candidates with Executive Assistant backgrounds who’ve transitioned or are transitioning into legal are encouraged to apply
Notary commission (or willingness to obtain)

Compensation & Details
Salary: $65,000 – $80,000 DOE
