Responsibilities

* Create and implement individual exercise programs for seniors.


* Conduct supervised exercise sessions.


* Conduct fitness consultations and physical performance evaluations (physical performance evaluation includes: 1-RM testing and Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB) assess vital signs).


* Conduct resident programming surveys and assist in the organization of educational activities and fitness events.


* Provide leadership, supervision, and mentoring to the Health and Fitness Specialist, including performance management and feedback, and formal annual performance reviews.


* Maintain all fitness facility equipment and areas.


* Attend and contribute to fitness and housing site administration staff meetings.


* Work closely with other site Fitness Departments and/or HSL Fitness staff with regards to all aspects of health and fitness programming.



Qualifications

* A bachelor's degree in exercise science or related field and/or a minimum certification level equal to the ACSM Health and Fitness Instructor (HFI), and current CPR certification.


* 2-4-year experience preferred.


* Knowledge of aging and disability issues a plus.


* Computer proficiency i.e. ability to use MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel is preferred.


* Must be able to recognize exercise contraindications and refer to appropriate health professional as well as recognize signs of fatigue, injury and physiological stress and respond appropriately.


* Must be able to teach and motivate elders effectively.


* Exceptional customer service, teamwork, communication and interpersonal skills are required. Ability to promote good relations in-house and with outside vendors, required. Demonstrate flexibility, adjusting behavior, style or schedule as circumstances change.
