Civil Litigation Defense Attorney - Prairie Village, KS AND Kansas City, MO Locations
A respected law firm is seeking an experienced Civil Litigation Defense Attorney to join its growing team. The firm represents small to midsize businesses and insurance companies in Kansas and Missouri, focusing on employment law, dram shop liability, construction disputes, and other civil matters. The firm does not have your standard billable hours requirement but rather focuses on hard work and efficiency in rewarding their staff.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Manage all aspects of civil litigation defense, including case strategy, research, and courtroom representation.
+ Handle the taking and defense of depositions, ensuring thorough preparation and effective execution.
+ Draft motions, motion responses, pleadings, and discovery requests/responses.
+ Navigate and adhere to hectic litigation deadlines, specifically in federal court.
+ Represent clients during hearings, mediations, and trials, developing strategies tailored to their unique goals.
+ Collaborate directly with clients, building strong relationships and providing clear, proactive counsel.

Requirements
Qualifications:
+ Active bar license in Kansas is REQUIRED (Missouri license preferred as well).
+ J.D. from an accredited law school.
+ 3+ years of civil litigation experience, preferably in employment, construction, or insurance defense law.
+ Strong experience managing tight deadlines and federal court procedures.
+ Proven ability to handle cases independently, conduct depositions, and draft effective motions/responses.
+ Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
