Heavy Equipment Operator (Onsite at Nucor Steel, Decatur)
Position Type: Onsite, full-time
Overview: Operate and maintain heavy equipment (e.g., forklifts, cranes, loaders, dozers) to move metallurgical coke, coal, and related materials for loading, stacking, destocking, and other logistical actions in support of Nucor Steel’s production processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safely operate equipment to transport and position raw materials, coke, and coal within the Nucor environment.
- Load/unload trucks, railcars, and barges per direction and schedule.
- Follow production directives and adhere to quality limits (e.g., material placement accuracy).
- Conduct inspections of equipment; perform basic maintenance and report issues.
- Comply with all safety rules and maintain clean work areas.
- Collaborate with Nucor supervisors and coordinate with other material-handling teams using effective communication.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience operating industrial heavy equipment (forklift, crane, loader, dozer).
- Familiarity with bulk material handling is preferred.
- Willingness to learn and be reliable!
- Commitment to strong safety practices and participation in safety programs.
OSHA 10 a plus but not required! Must have valid Driver's License and ability to pass 6-month hair follicle testing.
