About this role
The Steel Detailer and Shop Drawing Coordinator is responsible for managing the creation, coordination, and integration of steel detailing and shop drawings for RNGDs in-house steel fabrication team. This role requires close coordination with third-party detailing services to produce accurate drawings that align with project needs, while also ensuring these drawings are tailored and optimized for RNGDs internal fabrication processes. The coordinator will make in-house adjustments as needed and serve as a key link between design, fabrication, and construction teams to ensure seamless production and project execution.
Primary Responsibilities
- Coordinate shop drawings for in-house steel fabrication by ensuring all drawings are designed and detailed to support RNGDs internal fabrication workflows, including material optimization, cutting, and assembly processes.
- Manage third-party detailing servicesto deliver timely and accurate shop drawings that meet both project specifications and in-house fabrication requirements.
- Review and verify drawingsto ensure compliance with project plans, company standards, and the capabilities of RNGDs fabrication team.
- Perform in-house adjustmentsto shop drawings to accommodate design changes, field conditions, or fabrication-specific needs.
- Collaborate with internal teamsincluding project managers, engineers, architects, and the in-house fabrication teamto resolve discrepancies and ensure drawings are production-ready.
- Maintain clear communicationwith the fabrication team to confirm that drawings align with equipment, processes, and material availability.
- Organize and maintain recordsof all drawings, revisions, and fabrication-related notes for easy access and reference.
- Ensure compliancewith industry standards, building codes, and RNGDs quality expectations for fabrication.
- Utilize company software and toolsto manage drawings, facilitate coordination, and plan fabrication tasks effectively.
- Act as a liaisonbetween the design team, in-house fabrication team, and construction team to ensure drawings are accurate and feasible for production.
- Oversee the submittal and approval process for shop drawings, ensuring timely reviews and approvals to keep fabrication on schedule.
Qualifications
- Associates degree or higher in Drafting, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experiencein steel detailing and shop drawing coordination, with specific expertise in supporting steel fabrication.
- Proficiency in CAD software(e.g., AutoCAD, Tekla Structures) and familiarity with BIM tools; experience with construction management software like Procore is a plus.
- In-depth knowledgeof construction drawings, specifications, building codes, and steel fabrication processes.
- Proven experience coordinating with third-party detailersand adapting drawings for in-house fabrication needs.
- Ability to quickly adjust drawingsto resolve design or fabrication challenges.
- Strong communication and organizational skillsto manage multiple stakeholders and deadlines.
- Willingness to travel occasionally for site visits or team meetings.
