Position: Upside Afterschool Coordinator
Reports to: Upside Preschool Director
Status: part time, 20-25 hours, Non-exempt
Overview/Purpose:
The Upside Preschool (UP) is a non-profit associate of Park Collective, where we believe that good things can flourish. The Upside Afterschool Program is dedicated to providing excellent quality after school care for local elementary students (K-5th grades) at a reasonable cost. The program is a branch of Upside Preschool which is a Christian Preschool and as such will reflect those Christian beliefs through Biblical instruction, activities, and the actions and behavior of the staff. It is a place where children of all socioeconomic statuses and faiths are welcome.
The Upside Afterschool Coordinator responsibilities include: creating a safe, structured, loving and fun environment for elementary children. The Coordinator will be expected to follow the policies and procedures of Upside Afterschool Program and enforce the rules of their class/group of children. The Coordinator will be expected to collaborate with their assistant and other Upside staff to guide the children in their class/group with the goal to keep the elementary children safe.
The Upside Afterschool Coordinator will be responsible for the following:
- Manage the classroom
Interacts appropriately and positively with children and parents.
Follows the policies and procedures of Upside Afterschool which includes following state and licensing guidelines.
Lead the children in their classroom/group with positive modeling of behavior.
Work alongside the coordinator and assistants(s) to achieve program goals and ensure safety of the children in their care.
Keep the structure of the classroom/group by following the schedule.
Collaborate with the coordinator and assistants regarding classroom/group activities.
The Coordinator will participate and lead classroom in emergency drills in a calm and professional manner.
- Licensing and Compliance
- Coordinator should have proper experience and education as required for state licensing which should include one or more of the following:
HS diploma and 6+months experience
Associates or Bachelors in ECE or similar field
NAC/CDA/CCP certificate
- Coordinator will be required to attend 24 hours of training per year.
- Coordinator will be required to have a current first aid and CPR training card/certificate.
- Coordinator will be required to pass a background check and have a level one fingerprint clearance card through the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
- Coordinator will be asked to complete a Tuberculosis Symptom & Risk Factor Screening.
- Coordinator must be 18 years old+.
- Program Development
- Coordinator should work alongside the Upside Director and Assistant Director to help plan, evaluate, and administer the daily activities.
Upside Afterschool Coordinator should embody Christian beliefs and promote social development through fun and educational activities.
Parent and Community Relationships
Maintain positive and professional parent/guardian relationships and maintain open communication and personal interaction with co-workers.
Attend planned Upside events to promote positive relationships with community and Upside families.
Help promote and keep parents informed of activities, events, etc. at Upside
Attend meetings with parents/guardians, and director as needed to deal with situations to assist students in their learning and behavior
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS
Demonstrates a heart and passion for children
Working knowledge of childcare regulations and safety practices
Must be versatile and collaborative team player with the ability to work independently
Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks. Be able to prioritize effectively.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students, parents/guardians, and co-workers.
Ability to manage and resolve conflict with an attitude of humility
Proven ability to use good judgement and ability to maintain confidentiality
Ability to handle emergency situations with a professional and confident demeanor
A personal relationship with Jesus Christ
Theologically and doctrinally aligned with Heights Church on important matters
Demonstrates evidence of a Christ-like attitude in words and actions, with humility
Must meet AZ State requirements for a Daycare Teacher
An understanding of children and their developmentally appropriate needs
A clear background check, fingerprint and safety check is required
Previous daycare experience in a lead classroom role is preferred
Maintain CPR and First Aid certifications
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
