Job Description

Constructs, erects, installs, and repairs structures and fixtures of wood, plywood, and wallboard, conforming to local building codes, by performing the following duties.

*Hiring is anticipated to take place in January-February 2025 timeframe*

Responsibilities

• Studies blueprints, sketches, or building plans for information pertaining to type of material required, such as lumber or fiberboard, and dimensions of structure or fixture to be fabricated.
• Selects specified type of lumber or other materials.
• Prepares layout.
• Marks cutting and assembly lines on materials.
• Shapes materials to prescribed measurements.
• Assembles cut and shaped materials and fastens them together with nails, dowel pins, or glue.
• Verifies trueness of structure with plumb bob and carpenter's level.
• Erects framework for structures and lays subflooring.
• Builds stairs and lays out and installs partitions and cabinet work.
• Covers subfloor with building paper to keep out moisture and lays hardwood, parquet, and wood-strip-block floors by nailing floors to subfloor or cementing them to mastic or asphalt base.
• Applies shock-absorbing, sound-deadening, and decorative paneling to ceilings and walls.
• Fits and installs prefabricated window frames, doors, doorframes, weather stripping, interior and exterior trim, and finish hardware, such as locks, letterdrops, and kick plates.
• Constructs forms and chutes for pouring concrete.
• Erects scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground level.
• Immediately report all Incidents/Accidents, no matter how small, to their Supervisor.
• This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
• Other duties that are pertinent to the department or unit's success also may be assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent or ten (10) years directly related experience will be considered
• Minimum one (1) years directly related experience required.
• North Slope experience in similar role preferred.
• Valid NSTC card.
• Driver's License and an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under company vehicle insurance policy is preferred.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision, Distance vision, Peripheral vision, Depth perception and Ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, bend over, or crawl and talk or hear. Steel toed boots are required on the job.
