SUMMARY The Medical Assistant and Phlebotomist will be a vital member of our healthcare team, providing essential support in both administrative and clinical capacities. The ideal candidate will have a strong background as a medical assistant and phlebotomist, with a commitment to delivering high-quality patient care within the primary care, lifestyle, integrative and functional medicine framework.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Clinical Support:
- Assist healthcare providers in patient examinations and minor procedures and any on-site patient care needs within the scope of practice and under the supervision of the Nurse Operations Leader.
- Perform phlebotomy procedures with precision and attention to patient comfort and experience.
- Administer injections and medications as directed by licensed healthcare professionals.
- Perform diagnostic exams such as DEXA scan based on training and licensure.
- Report EMR/Tech Issues
- Send external referrals
- Send/Check status of medications with the Pharmacy
- Keep track of expiration dates of clinical supplies
- Relay any urgent messages to physicians regarding Patient Care
Patient Interaction:
- Greet and prepare patients for examinations, ensuring a comfortable and supportive environment.
- Maintains safety of other staff and patients, as well as all applicable information.
- Obtain, record, and validate vital signs, medical histories, medications, supplements/vitamins, and other pertinent information.
Laboratory Procedures:
- Properly collect, process, and label specimens for laboratory testing.
- Perform phlebotomy accurately and safely on patients across lifespan.
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation of laboratory results in patient records.
- Gathering medical testing materials, including needles, sample vials, blood storage bags and test tubes.
- Clean instruments and equipment after use.
- Manage and track supplies and expiration dates
Administrative Tasks:
- Schedule patient appointments and coordinate with other healthcare team members.
- Enter data and maintain electronic health records, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
- Keep exam rooms stocked with adequate medical supplies.
- Maintain frequent communication with the laboratory and coordinate specimen collection.
- Manage room designations for Physicians and Expert Practitioners
- Superbill requests / follow up with member
- Care Navigator
- Manually enter insurance information into EMR
- Find specialists that accepts members Insurance for external referrals
- Track patients’ membership journey
- Freeze / Unfreeze Expert Care schedules
- Scheduling End of Visit Appointments and Physician recommendations
- Keep spreadsheet logs up to date
- Pre-Visit documentation in Outlook for previous visit recommendations
- Navigating EMR/App
Health Education:
- Provide patients with any information regarding sample collection procedures and preparation for laboratory tests and specialty tests.
- Maintain patient communication with pertinent care updates including repeat lab collection, blood draws, and result delays. Relay messages to patients from providers and other healthcare staff.
- Assist in patient education on primary care, functional, integrative, and lifestyle medicine principles.
OTHER DUTIES

Regular attendance in conformance with the standards, which may be established by Love.Life from time to time, is essential to the successful performance of this position. Attendance standard for salaried exempt team members is dedicating adequate time to fulfill the duties outlined in this job description equal to, or more than 40 hours per workweek.
Due to the cyclical nature of the industry, team members may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the needs of the business.
JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
This Medical Assistant and Phlebotomist must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities to demonstrate they can perform the essential functions of the job, along with the physical requirements, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Strong understanding of primary care, lifestyle, integrative, and functional medicine concepts.
- Experience with lifestyle and integrative medicine practice (preferred)
- Excellent organizational and multitasking skills.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in electronic health record systems.
- Bilingual (Spanish) Preferred
EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION REQUIRED
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Medical Assistant diploma or certificate of completion from an accredited Medical Assisting program.
- Phlebotomy certification and 2+ years of experience are required (CPT 1 license for CA).
- Highly preferred experience with DEXA scans, training, and CDPH license eligibility.
- Current BLS with AED certificate from the American Heart Association or similar organization.
