The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Neurological Surgery is currently seeking a full time Nurse Specialist to work in Miami, FL. The Nurse Specialist assesses a healthcare facility's nursing practice and its impact on patient outcomes. Moreover, the incumbent provides direction to nursing staff in the delivery of patient care programs, and acts as a change agent, mentor, and leader. An employee in this position ensures nursing staff sustain an established level of competency. Core job functions include performing medical tests in patients to diagnose their health condition, interpreting laboratory test results, recommending treatment plans, counseling on positive health practices, providing cost-effective nursing practices, collaborating with experts for best treatment, performing holistic evaluation of specialty population, implementing improvements in patient care and healthcare policies, mentoring healthcare professionals, maintaining professional knowledge, and adhering to University policies. Department specific functions include providing care to patients with complex cranial and spinal conditions, developing differential diagnosis, prioritizing nursing care needs, evaluating and documenting nursing interventions, educating patients, assisting with cross coverage, attending MRI multidisciplinary committee, monitoring patient assessments and outcomes, optimizing patient care, collaborating with providers, coordinating services, reviewing patient reports, working independently, prioritizing work efficiently, and handling sensitive information with discretion. The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, a valid Florida RN license, and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience. Skills needed include effective interpersonal relationships, communication, data analysis, and proficiency in computer software such as Microsoft Office.
