The Lead Phlebotomist will be required to perform procedures to include venipuncture, capillary puncture. The Lead Phlebotomist is also responsible for accurate patient identification and proper labeling of specimens at the bedside. The Lead Phlebotomist must also be able to communicate with patients, doctors, and other hospital staff. The Lead Phlebotomist will assist with ordering of supplies, new staff training and competency assessment, annual competency assessment of all Phlebotomists and continuing education of staff.
I. Qualifications:
A. Education:
High School graduate or equivalent preferred. Completion of a phlebotomy training course or on the job training in a CAP certified hospital laboratory. CPR certification required, PBT (ASCP), CPT (ASCP) or equivalent preferred.
B. Training and Experience:
Three to 5 years experience in a CAP of JCAHO certified hospital clinical laboratory preferred. Must have a thorough understanding of Clinical Laboratory procedures.
II. Unusual Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
A. Requires ability to lift and move boxes of supplies weighing up to 30 pounds.
B. Job requires extended periods of standing, walking, and use of stairway.
C. Job involves exposure to bio-hazardous materials, chemicals, and potential infectious diseases.
