This position supports this Department purpose through the function of timely and accurate specimen receipt, preparation and/or processing for analysis on various body fluids, tissues, and fecal material. Functions also include answering telephones and giving specimen collection information and results, clerical work including filling and record keeping, supply inventory and ordering, glassware maintenance, reagent preparation, equipment and general area maintenance. In addition to these general functions, for assignment which require phlebotomy/venipuncture services, incumbent will be assigned to Hospital and/or Primary Care Network Laboratories. Functions may also include specimen dispatch and courier services (utilizing University vehicles and/or by foot).

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

• Certified Phlebotomist Technician
• State licensure as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician, as defined by the California Department of Health Services.
• Must have the skills and experience to perform adult, geriatric, adolescent, pediatric and neonatal venipuncture and neonatal skin puncture in both an inpatient and outpatient setting.
• Knowledge of laboratory specimen handling, processing and shipping requirements.
• Knowledge of computer systems such as EMR, LIS, email, and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to work on several projects or tasks simultaneously and to exercise appropriate judgment when setting priorities.
• Ability to prioritize and complete work to meet required turnaround times and deadlines.
• Manual dexterity for pipetting and/or aliquoting specimens.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of Clinical and Anatomic Pathology specimens types, including blood, tissues and body fluids.
• Knowledge of Clinical and Anatomic Pathology policies, procedures, processes and workflows for phlebotomy and specimen processing, handling and transport.
• Ability to maintain legible and accurate records.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, and to use good judgement in handling situations not covered by written or verbal instructions.
• Possess effective verbal communication skills to answer questions from internal and external customers in a clear and concise manner.
• Possess written communication skills to write clear emails, EMR messages, and reports to convey information appropriately.
