Position Purpose: The Registered Nurse is responsible for educating, assisting, and interacting with patients in an outpatient clinic setting with regards to health promotion and wellness. Key Functions and Responsibilities The Operating RN will be able to circulate and scrub on a variety of surgical procedures including general, cardiothoracic, vascular, endovascular, ear/nose/throat, and robotic. * Working with patients before surgery to complete paperwork and help answer questions or calm fears about surgery. * Monitoring a patient's condition during and after surgery. * Selecting and passing instruments and supplies to the surgeon during operation (sometimes referred to as a scrub nurse). * Managing the overall nursing care in the operating room to help maintain a safe and comfortable environment (sometimes referred to as a circulating nurse). * Maintaining the sterile field, surgical instruments, sharps, and sponge counts. surgical scrubs, positioning, and skin preparation of patients. * Educating patients on best practices for recovery, including pain management and keeping wounds clean * Measuring and recording patients' vital signs. * Closely observing patients for signs of side effects of medication. * Treating pain, nausea, and other post-operative symptoms of anesthesia. * Updating charts, patient files, and medical records. * Collaborating with the medical team on post-operative patient care and facilitating timely specialized interventions. * Providing comfort and reassurance to distressed post-operative patients and concerned family members. * Educating patients and their families on post-surgery care, as well as answering questions. Qualifications Required Education and Licensing * Current unrestricted license * BLS and ACLS (American Heart Association approved) Required Knowledge and Experience * Minimum of three years recent experience in OR/PACU. * High-level of reliability and dependability. * A valid driver's license is required. Working Conditions and Environment This position is on-site in a medical facility. Driving may be required. Physical Requirements The position requires repetitive motion, such as standing, walking, sitting and bending. Light lifting, up to 20 pounds, may be required.
