**Medical Oncology G21 Unit** : The unit is a 48-bed four-pod intermediate medical oncology unit providing care to adult and geriatric patients ranging in age from 18 - 95. Patients treated on G21 include those with colorectal, gastrointestinal, and lung cancer receiving complex chemotherapeutic and bio-immunotherapeutic regimens, management of treatment side effects and complications, and supportive care **.** Inaddition, G21 is the primary unit for patients with a wide range of acute non-cancer related medical problems and those requiring cardiac monitoring and infusion of cardiac medications.
**The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing degree and two years of recent inpatient nursing experience, preferably in pediatrics or oncology.**
Essential Job Functions:
Function manages patient outcomes by providing, coordinating and supporting clinical aspects of direct patient care across the continuum of care.
Scope Impacts quality of patient care, patient outcomes and use of resources in a designated area in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.
Essential Job Functions Accountable for the management and provision of patient care in assigned area.
Assesses patient's needs for nursing care and multidisciplinary team.
Collaborates with physicians, other services, patient and patient's family to plan care and evaluate outcomes.
Improves practice by integrating results and theories of research studies.
Participates in data collection for current studies.
Demonstrates clinical competency and compassion in providing care, using technology, administering medications, performing procedures and managing emergencies.
Documents care according to established standards.
Accesses, inputs and retrieves information from computer systems.
Assures continuity of care through appropriate discharge planning, patient education and coordination of services.
Acts as a patient and family advocate in order to uphold patient rights.
Trains, coaches and assists team members to ensure optimum patient care and efficient use of resources.
Other duties as assigned.
Education Required: Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing.
Education Preferred: Bachelor's of Science in Nursing.
Experience Required: One year of experience in an acute care setting
Experience Preferred: Two years relevant clinical nursing experience.
Licensure/Certification Required: Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license (RN). Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
Licensure/Certification Preferred: Certification in oncology or specialty practice area. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification as required by patient care area.
